Hi everyone, I have an 08 Dodge, 5.7. Grenaded the transmission in it, I have a NAG1 out of a charger and was wondering what it would take to make it work in the truck. I've heard the NAG1 has a lot more benefits and can withstand more power than the 545. Am I crazy or is it doable?

Anything is doable with enough know how and money, but it isn't really worth it. It does have five speeds, but it's not the same five speeds. NAG1 is 1-2-3-4-OD, whereas the 545 is 1-2-3-OD1-OD2 (with 2P as the weak link kickdown gear). Think your mileage is bad now, take away that second OD gear lol. The NAG1 is designed to be in cars with independent rears; it has no provision for a slip yoke, which means custom two piece driveshaft to account for axle movement. You have a combined PCM/TCM that controls the RFE, whereas the NAG1 requires use of a dedicated TCM.There's a whole host of other smaller factors that make it royal pain in the @ss; it would actually be easier to swap in an 8HP70 (ZF 8 speed in 5.7 & 6.4 cars). It would have the same physical issues but the TCM is an integrated part of the valve body. Sound German has had ZF retrofit harnesses for a while now. IT wasn't easy but someone put one in a 2004 with a 6.1 stroker. With he latest progress SG has made, the harness is plug and play all the way back to 2009, with confidence that it would work the same at least back through 2007 (that was earlier this year,m there may have been more progress made since then).
