Default 4x4 not working

I have a 2008 ram 1500 5.7 4x4 with 89,000 miles. The 4x4 is not working and I don't really know where to start to fix it. The transfer case is shifting as it should, but the front wheels aren't engaging. I just get a clicking sound from the front end almost like the diff, doesn't sound like an actuator, sounds more like the diff isn't engaging fully. I am the second owner of the truck and it was babied before I bought it,any idea what I should start with?

Do you have the **** to switch from 4x2 to 4x4? If you do, Check out the wire harness going thru the bulk head down the brake park ratchet. Sometimes the wires will rub on the ratchet.

I can hear the actuator moving. It's just not engaging.

It maybe just the actuator. I know on the Jeeps you can replace just the actuators.
