2005 Ram Hemi starts sometime then dies.
Hey everyone I need help. I’ve been through hell with this truck. The issue is it starts when cold for a sec then dies unless I give it throttle. After I do that a couple times it will not start again unless I give it throttle and will stay running and move through the rpm while I give it gas. A little history on the truck, it’s got a completely rebuilt engine with a small Greene cam because my old engine got wiped out but the failed lifter. The truck sat for a while (2 years) while I collected parts and rebuilt the engine, finally got it in and come to find in the time it was sitting my Pcm took a dump. I finally got a new pcm in last week and truck finally started on the new engine after 2 years ran for not even a minute at 1000 rpm then died. Noticed on my Diablo the ambient temp sensor was reading wrong and throwing a code. Ordered a new ambient temp sensor, IAT and MAP sensor just cause they’re cheap. Truck is still doing the same thing but now the codes gone. I unplugged the throttle body and it will stay running on its own idling between 1k and 1500 rpm. I cleaned the throttle body while I was rebuilding the engine. I’m pretty sure it’s the throttle body but not sure.
I’ve tried all the ones I’ve found online. Turn the key on press and release the gas pedal slowly cycle the key and started the engine or same process with out cycling the key either way it just chugs then dies immediately.
I have reinstalled the egr. I’ve done the throttle relearn procedure. Throttle body is clean it does it with a new one also. The truck has been sitting and I take the battery out every time to put on a tender until I can come back a troubleshoot when I have time. so I would think that resets the pcm. There’s no codes, no check engine light, no thunderbolt. It cranks up and fires then drops to idle and shuts off then won’t start unless I give it throttle and will stay running as long as it’s above idle rpm. Once it drops to idle rpm it dies.
