I've got a 2005 Ram 1500 with a Hemi. When I bought it 14 years ago with 32,000 miles it had this issue and it still has it today at 307000 miles. When I first start it up in the morning if I take off immediately, it will slip for a very few seconds and then everything is fine for the rest of the day. I've read that this results from the fluid leaking down from the converter overnight and once restarted in the morning it takes a moment to fill the converter back up. Is there anything simple to do to fix this? Maybe a check valve somewhere that needs replacing? The thing runs just as good today as it did the day I bought it with no engine or transmission repairs.
Yes, I believe you have a check valve in one of the transmission lines. Either it's malfunctioning or a previous owner deleted it. Also, if you start the truck in neutral or shift into neutral for a bit before taking off, the ATF should pump and prime the lines.
Yes the should be a one way check valve on one of the transmission lines. It would be located near the radiator on the passenger side front. I you don't have one I would recommend to get one. You may have to replace the line.
