'02 1500 Transmission problem
I just bought an '02 1500 Sport with the 4.7. When I drive, it shifts hard into 2nd and 3rd gear. Once or twice it upshifted into 2nd and stalled while I was coming to a stop. It only happens at slow speeds. There are no engine lights and it has about 120K miles. Thanks!
This truck has a RFE trans that adapts to your driving habits. If the previous owner drove the truck harder than you, it may have to re-adapt to your driving. There is a pcm flash for the engine undershooting the idle that may help with the stalling at stops.
Yes, there is an adaption type process to a driver's habits. Just make sure that the bands have been adjusted and at the least a fluid drain/fill done. Don't "flush" it on a machine if it hasn't been serviced before.
Do a search on 46RFE tranny or something like that to get more info. If you decide to do the service yourself with the aid of a manual, be sure that you are reading the torque in the correct INCH/POUNDS NOT, I REPEAT NOT FOOT/POUNDS. FOOT/POUNDS IS A NO, NO.

The problem seems to be pretty persistant. Today was my first full day of driving. It is shifting as if it goes into nuetral for a split second before kicking into gear while upshifting into 2nd and 3rd. That's what it feels like. Also, twice through a parking lot (under 10mph) it wouldn't downshift into 1st out of 2nd and stalled. I have to restart the truck. I have heard several places about the solenoid packs going bad. Could this be the problem and how much does this problem usually cost to remedy? The solenoids are internal I take it? Thanks for your help. If you have any stereo questions, that's my specialty. Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you reset the computer and all it has "learned" by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes? This might be a good place to start, then move on the the PCM flash.

Tried that. It does the same thing. Thanks for the heads up, though. Does anyone know how much the flash usually costs? I am assuming it has to be done by the dealer since they are the only ones privelaged with the software.
