Voltmeter pegged when running
2005 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7L Auto. When turning the key on voltmeter in the cluster goes to about 1/2, then when started and running pegs out at or near maximum value. Voltage is at about 14.6 when running on a separate meter. All other gauges in the cluster read normal readings. No luck finding a solution yet. I'm thinking this may just be bad ground connection, but surprised no other gauges are affected. I have not had any luck yet tracking down a bad ground.
Thanks..
Thanks..
That was the other thing I was thinking, but didn't say it. Has anyone repaired one of these or am I better off looking for another cluster? Or I can just ignore it and use an external meter..
Thanks.
Thanks.
I have looked at more possibilities and sadly I think you are right, My external voltmeter reads between 13.5 and 14.8 v, so definitely within a safe range. My main concern is if I "touch" the cluster will it cause another unanticipated problem, especially with the age of the truck and certain parts starting to become brittle. I'm leaning towards just leaving it alone. If another more urgent issue comes up I'll take the dive then. Thanks!
