Default TRANS COOLER, ROYAL PURPLE, WORTH IT?

so far im loving my new ram 1500 quad cab. recently the manager of one of my american transmissions accounts told me that the dodge trans is absolute garbage!
he also told me he has seen several of the 06s with only like 20k on them needing a new transmission. so my question is, should i install a huge transmission cooler and some royal purple atf to try to and get some great life out of it??

i am also gonna put full synthectic royal purple in the entire truck. well im gonna quit rambling about it now, any help would be great...

About your question, if you dont have a stock trans cooler, which comes with the tow package, and you plan on towing something other then a small trailer, yes get a trans cooler. A synthetic trans fluid cant hurt, they say that it even makes for smoother shifts.. It just annoys me that someone actually said what you said above.. First off, how many 06's have 20,000 miles on them? I got the first one my dealer got in early November and I have 4000 on mine and I drive alot.. Second, how would he have any knowledge of this if it was happening? These trucks have only been out a matter of months, its not like these trucks would be coming to him?? I just hate stupid people like this trans guy..

Heat kills automatic transmissions.

20K miles on an 06? You always have to be careful of bull when talking to random people.

Just a suggestion, Talk to your dealer about warranty if you do change tranny fluids. They call out atf+4, even for my 2500 6speed, and if the tranny does die, you may be eating the repair bill. I asked about changing mine over to NEO synthetic and he STRONGLY recommended I didn't until it is out of warrany.

I haven't seen Royal Purple act nice in non-race applications. It lubes things wonderfully, almost no film strength though. Race engines have it changed out all the time, on street apps you need fluids that lube well, and hold on to parts when it's sitting overnight and such. $.02
