Default 2008 Ram 1500 leak

I bought this truck new in 2008, Ram 1500 Quad 4.7L Flex Fuel with 191000 miles. Have never replaced anything on it other than brakes or tires. I had to change the alternator out last Friday and noticed what looks like a leak that happened or is weeping at some point directly under the alternator. Its not wet and Ive checked it after going back and forth to work this weekend 30 minutes each way and no fluid. I have wondered if it blows steam but havent seen any evidence or heard it and I havent had to add coolant in forever as in years. It looks like that piece is part of the head and the water pump is below it. Has anybody seen or dealt with this them selves any input would be appreciated.

If that's all the accumulation there is after 14 years, don't think I would be real concerned about it.

But, clean it up good, drive it for a week, check it again, see what ya got.

Welcome to DF!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm a little worried about the head gasket starting to go. If it is, time for a new truck except it's a terrible time to be buying a one. I think I'll put a new water pump on it this weekend and check the torgue on the the pump bolts 1st to see if maybe it came from the top of the pump. Your thoughts?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Clean it up, drive it for a while, check it again. Checking bolt torque isn't a bad idea though.... Keep in mind, they have been in there for a while, and are likely quite happy where they are, and not really willing to move.

That looks like oil of some sort. Doesn't look like an ongoing leak. Agree with HeyYou, I wouldn't be too concerned. The water pump doesn't weep that high or upwards. That old gravity would have you seeing coolant at or below the pump shaft. Just check your fluids, if you're not losing any, you're good.

I agree with the good comments so far, and add that head gaskets don't wear out. Head gasket problem is almost always result of an overtemp.
