Default Positive or negative??

Can anyone tell me which wire is positive and which one is negative. They are coming from the back of the cigarette lighter thing. I have a 2003 dodge ram 1500. Thanks

You should buy a volt-ohm meter, that answers all your questions. I'd have to guess here, but the thick red wire is likely +12vots.

Definitely test with multimeter/DVOM before stripping wires. Disconnect the plug, touch multimeter probes to the clips, and turn key to run. If you get a positive voltage reading then you have correct polarity.

Cheap work around to not spending $7 on a HarborFreight DMM... cut the wires, ground out a 12v light bulb and test each wire to see which one lights up the lamp.
