Default Gearing question

I have a 9.25 corporate rear end with 3.92 but I have 38 in tires so I'm planning on switching to a 4.56 gear but foy front end is a 205mm diff I think it's a 8 in front end or a 8.5 either way I'm planning on only doing the back and I've hear it will mess your truck up bad if you only change one but it only makes sense to me if the front drive shaft is in (mine is not) so since I don't have a front drive shaft can I only swap the rear? Or would I still have to do both? I eventually want to put the front drive shaft in and swap the front gears to but only have money for rear right now. If anyone could help me awnser this it would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn't make a difference, until you install that front drive shaft.

So I'm good to go ahead and get the rear end swapped out as long as I leave my front drive shaft out, correct?

You can leave the front driveshaft in as long as you don't put it in 4x4.
