I have a 2004 ram 1500 slt with the 7 speaker infinity sound system. A while back I decided to swap the front speakers with 4ohm pioneer 6x9's because I've of the factory speakers was blown. It worked fine for a while then it started cutting in and out in the front. A little while later both front door speakers quit working but the rears still worked. Now there's no sound at all. The head unit turns on and all the buttons seem to work fine but no sound. I decided to check fuses and the amp fuse under the hood was blown. I switched it out and the new one blew immediately.

Anyone have this happen before? Did I screw something up when installing the new speakers?

 

Are the new speakers the same ohms as the original ones?

 

they should be. i replaced them quite a while ago so i dont have the originals to double check but im pretty sure they were 4ohms just like the ones i currently have.

 

It sounds like the amp to me, but you should check everything you can first.
Take a look at the speakers and wiring. Is it the factory wires? If you know how to check for ground you may want to see if the positive wire get ground when you move the wire bundle around.
How hot does the amp get when running? I suspect the amp is failing and overloading the circuit.
You could also check the head unit. See if there are cut or bare wires.

 

I have checked all the wires that I can without completely removing the dash and they're all factory and I can't see any broken ones. I pulled the head unit and no broken wires. The amp is the factory infinity amp up behind the glovebox so I don't know how hot it was getting while it worked.
