Default Transmission issues???

So I currently have a friend who’s having problems with their 06 ram 3500 dually. When he starts driving from a stand still the truck is extremely slow until it gets to around 45 mph . After the speed is reached the truck starts working like normal. No skipping in gears or grinding/ anything of that nature. He’s taken it to a dealer before and they recommended just buying a new transmission . Obviously this option not being the cheapest thing to do he asked if I could help him find what’s wrong with it through forums hoping someone might know what’s going on . If anyone has any idea or suggestions please help. Thank you.

Do you know what tests the dealer performed when deciding he needs a new tranny?
Any money spent on maintenance and troubleshooting might be wasted if ultimately he needs a new transmission.
But I'm an optimist and would find a high end code scanner and see if there are tranny codes. I'd also replace the transmission fluid and filters.
If there's still a problem I would go to a transmission shop for a diagnostic. Many transmission shops will deduct the diagnostic fee if you buy a new transmission.
