Default JTEC engine in a NGC truck?

I have a 05 1500 4x4 that I got a few years back with no engine. Last year I found a 06 1500 with super low miles (61k) and the engine was a great price. I know this does not sound possible but after finally getting around to this project I discover the new engine is a jtec. Called dodge and they said it would of had to be the wrong VIN plate on the doner truck which was a wrecked DOT truck.
Is it possible to make this engine work? I know the tone rings are different and the jtec has a separate TCM. A used engine with less than 100k around here is 3k and up and super hard to find. I did a lot of new parts on this jtec engine and kick myself for not unwrapping the harness to check the connectors but the truck was a 2006 according to the data plate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New engine control system is. Don't overthink this. Literally the only physical difference between the engine from that 05 and the one from the 06 is MDS. Default mechanical position for MDS is off and with no means to activate it (no harness and your PCM can't) it will never function. Drop it in and run with it.

So use the 3 plug harness on my 4 plug ECM or change the ECM to a 3 plug JTEC? I thought the tone rings are different too. Dealer said that there was no way that JTEC engine came out of an 06. More like an 02 so I have no clue how that happened.

Let's back up here; I wrongly assumed you were looking at a hemi like most people do. You haven't actually said what engine, so let's start with that first.

Yes sorry. It is a 4.7L that was in my truck.

Further inspection and research shows that the replacement is a 06 but it is also a NGC. The wiring harness only has 3 plugs tho. One black, one orange, and one green. There is no white connector and I see nothing cut.

You're still good then. Use your existing harness; same thing with PCI vs CAN still apply. Same count tone wheel from 03-08.

Awesome. Any idea what the white plug controls? It is not on this replacement engine and the truck harness isnt there. Gonna hit a pick n pull today and see if I can find a good one. Just curious why this harness doesn't have it. Appreciate all the help!

Mopar always likes to change things here and there; sometimes they are meaningless changes and sometimes they it's significant. Regardless, that engine will run on your existing electronics.
