Question Recommended Shock Absorbers

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Cub Cab with a 5.9 motor.

The truck has 132,000 miles and I want to replace the shock absorbers.

I pull an RV that weighs about 4500# and am wondering if anyone might have suggestion for type and/or brand of shocks to put on it especially if good for pulling the RV..

Bilstein 5100's, or equivalent for your truck.

Like HeyYou said, Bilsteins. Being a 1500, I'd look into an equalizer hitch setup. Take some weight off the rear and give you better handling.

I'm sure you know already, but having correct tongue weight will help shocks do their job. A 4500 trailer should have tongue weight of 450 to 675. A working shock absorber and leaf will have no trouble with this load.

New shocks will help, no matter the brand. The bilsteins lasted a really long time on my 1500. I usually just put on the economical monroe hd and call it a day. Like Jrsick says, proper loading of the trailer for weight distribution is important for best trailer control. You could change out the ball hitch and go with a weight distribution hitch with sway control.
