dies on the road
2003 1500 SLT 4.7L 2WD 215k~
one day doesnt start, run the battery way down trying lots of cranking power.
after a charge it starts right up like nothing wrong
then is dies on the road,
10 blocks from home
edit:
solved the plugs were really old and i should have replaced those before posting here.
doesnt seem its a debris or the like blockage
has failed cold
stops running restart gets a consistent 1-second sputter-run
i saw a volts drop on the meter but it recovered stayed top center mostly
after 10 minute cool down? restart worked fine i went to the stores got a burger restarted drove short distances. back to normal
the ac is bad perhaps i turned it on.
also suspected pulley lockup
was very dependable in the first months
is this a sensor symptom
forgot to mention i bought a new battery for it.
edit: i should also say that the engine symbol top left has always been showing but the stalls are more recent months

If your A/C compressor is locked up, then disconnect the electrical connector so if you do accidentally turn the air conditioner on, it won't do anything. (or pull the compressor clutch fuse)
I am thinking it sounds like maybe fuel pressure. AutoZone has a Loan a tool program and you can borrow stuff for days, weeks on end. I think 90 days max but you can even renew it by phone if you must... Get their fuel pressure test set and it should have all the bits and pieces to be able to splice a gauge inline (so it will run) and it has a long hose so you can likely run it out behind the closed hood and tape it to the windshield. Watch the fuel pressure when it is acting up.
Don't endlessly crank and crank your starter. If it is going to start, it'll happen right away like normal. There is like a 2 hour recommended cool off period for the heat soaked starter that had been motoring the engine for a combined 5-8 minutes aggregate of time. That is, if your battery lasts that long. AND as allekat mentioned, lower voltage may make the ignition sparks weaker OR lower voltage could be a challenge for the electronics (PCM) to operate properly.
My newly acquired 2004 5.7 SLT has reportedly just died in the middle of the highway at least two if not three times, then towed to a repair shop where they can't find any codes or any fault by the time a doctor has a change to examine the patient. That is why my brother gave the truck to me... I cautiously await the shoe to drop on me...
Hey, I am certainly curious to hear (read) what your driveability fault is and how you eventually fix it. Even if you end up taking to a shop and pay someone to troubleshoot the fault, Please return and tell us what you find out.
I'll be here and ready to help you figure this out,
Cheers!

wait. i lied.
the IAC did improve the idle but this did not solve the stalling problem.
it stalled on me luckily in a parking lot.
i let it rest for a bit.
still no start.
turns over nicely and sparks for a 1 second run constitenly 20+ times in a row.
twice a nice 20 minute cool down resolved itself.
today i tried for 30-40 minutes.
some girl gave me a jump it fired right up drove home restarted 2-3 times.
i was told crank position sensor bought one have yet to put it on
after a jump restarts it remains stable 2-3 starts ,
that does sound like could be crank position sensor.
occasionally does stammer going down the road.
also its a 2002 gen2 not gen3 the guy said it was a 2003 but its a 2002.

How about the ASD system (Automatic Shut Down)
I want you to find the ASD relay in the fuse box and put a piece of identifying tape on it. Then swap that relay with another one for like the horn or fog lights.
Let's see if your fault goes away and then your fog lights become intermittent.
Cheers!
As always, I can't wait to hear back from you.
