Default 2004 Ram 1500 Rear Wheel Movement on Jacks

I have a 2004 Ram 1500 5.7 that I just put a used rear end in, same year. It is a 3.92 and when I have it on jack stands I turn wheel forward and the opposite wheel doesn't turn but the driveshaft turns. When I turn wheel backwards opposite wheel turns in the opposite direction and driveshaft barely moves. Is this normal? I started feeling a bumping in the rear end while pulling away straight from a red light so I've had it parked. I have put less then 30 miles on the truck after the new rear end and when I was blocks from home is when I started feeling something. I haven't opened the cover yet, I wanted to ask if the wheels were acting correctly before proceeding.

Yeah, that's normal behavior for an open rear end. The 'bump' though, is not..... need to figger out what that's all about.

Thanks, I'll pull the cover and investigate further. I appreciate your answer.

My original rear end rusted on one end from being a Michigan truck, the parking brake flipped sideways and the C clip released. I see you're in Michigan too.

Yep. Been here for quite some time. I am in extreme southern michigan. I can throw rocks at ohio, with some expectation of actually hitting it.

Make sure the leaf springs are fully seated on the perches and the u-bolts are tight. There should be no gaps between the leaf spring and the perch.
