The 4-pin is hanging under the bumper already. no need for an adaptor.

Same with mine. It has a cap over the pins to protect them.

OEM gave the 7/8 pin to 4 pin connector away back with the 98-01 RAM. The found that most people never use this connector, so it was a waste for most. All RAMs come with trailer hitch molded into the rear bumper, at a class III rating, and a four pin connector tucked under the rear bumper near the left license plate lamp. If the vehicle was ordered with a class IV hitch, then it has the 7/8 pin connector with a spring loaded flap just inboard of the left license plate lamp, and it still has the four pin connector tucked under the bumper. It seems to me that there are 8 pins in the connector at the bumper, the four for taillamps (parking, turn, and ground0, three for the electric brakes, and one for a high current 12 volt feed for your tailer.

If you have the Factory tow package, the 7 pin will already be on the bumper beside the license plate, otherwise there should be a 4 pin under the bumper on the driver's side
