Does anybody know why trucks sit like this?

I have a 2004 1500 QC 4x4, and after reading tons of posts on cranking the torsion bar, I decided to do it. Before the crank, I measured 22" from the center of the wheel cap to the top of the wheel well. I cranked 5 turns, and it raised it 1". It has been 2 weeks, and I have notice no difference in ride. I can tell it sits more level. I have about 1000 miles left on my stock tires, so I thought this would be a good time to try the crank to see if it messed up my alignment. So far so good. After I put new tires on, if I don't like the crank, I'll just crank it back down. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, especially since I called a off-road shop this morning after I made my post and they want almost $800 for a 2" leveling kit w/installation!
The method you describe sounds easy enough. My 1/2" drive breaker bar should provide enough leverage.

I had an 03 QuadCab 4x4 that I cranked the TB's on and it was stiffer and I noticed I didn't have as good of turn a radius. I didn't care it looked alot better that was for sure.
I hate the front end droop too, Ive been looking at level spacers for the front end all over the place for a while now, and all claim I dont need new shocks in the front. I also hear about excessive wear from using these. So I'm nervous to make any moves. Any take on these?

lol perhaps some NDG's will do the job. But when I said spacer, I referring to the level kits that justfits between the frame and coil, like this:

A jack and a 1/2" drive socket wrench with socket. Truly I believe the rake on our trucks are due to CAFEstandards to increase mpg.Cranking the torsion bar is basically the same as adding different keys, you are twisting the bars more. Just do it yourself andthat way, if you don't like it, you can put it back without spending a dime. I lifted mine just enough to make it level but I've experienced no harsh ride what's so ever. Start on a nice smooth level surface and measure each side from the ground to the fender lip. Jack up one side and crank that bolt about five times. I used white-out on the bolt head and the bracket for a reference to keep track of the turns. After five turns lower the truck and re-measure. Write down the new #. Mine was about 2" after 5 turns. Jack up the other side and do the same. The measurement maybe different, if so, jack it up again and add or subtract turns to make sure each side is the same. Write the number of turns for each side down and throw it in the glove box in case you want to change it. Now, go get it aligned because you changed the Camber. If you go more then 2" you'll need longer shocks as well.

on the frame or front axle area

you just jacked it up and turned the bolts, I am thinking you tightened them?
and this gave you the height you looked forright?
you didnt adjust anything else?
