Does anybody know why trucks sit like this?
I have an 04 1500 QC Hemi 4x4, and absolutely hate how it sits lower in the front than the back. But does anybody know why they build them this way?
The 4x4 2500's and even the 1500 Mega Cab 4x4's sit level. Why not the QC 4x4's? I've noticed the 2nd generation Ram 1500's sit more level compared to the 3rd generation. Is it because of the independent front suspension vs a straight axle?

3/4 and 1 ton trucks usually sit more level than 1/2 tons. They all are racked in the front. This is for load capacity. Put a bunch of weight in the back or heavy trailer on the bumper and the truck will sag. Having the rear higher will help keep the truck level when loaded. 1/2 tons having lighter springs need to be a little bit higher than the 3/4 and 1 tons.
He has torsion bars on the 1500, not springs, so will have to crank them up!!! But to answer your question, it not that the springs are lighter, it's because there are two to three more springs in each pack.
Let me refrase this, 1500's have fewer springs in the rear than a 2500 or 3500 ram. Therefore hauling a load in a 1500 will make it squat more hence leveling it out were the heavy duty trucks will squat very little. Thats why they have very little rake on the front end.
The 1500 Mega Cab is actually built on a Ram 2500 frame.

Yes I know the 2006 1500 mega cab has the heavier frame but there are still fewer springs in the rear. And the question was about a 2004 1500 ram!!!! The 2006's you could use a spacer in the front to level it cause they have coil springs again.
Thanks for answering the questions guys. It sucks because 2002 to 2005 Rams don't have the coil springs, and nobody makes a leveling kit for them (I've tried everywhere). Plus, I'm not a big fan of cranking the torsion bars.
But, for you lucky guys with 06's, all you need is the spacer.

It was mentioned above but have you cranked your trosion bars? SOme report the truck being near level after a few turns.
I know I was crawling under my 2wd truck and noticed how they installed the rear springs which I think is the cause for the power brakeing look of the truck. The springs do not connect to the truck but are actually about 3" short. From here it has a shackle extension which is the exact same thing I use to use on my Cherokees to get about 1 1/2" of lift in the rear. Wonder if there is a way to fix this? I'm not crazy of the idea of a spring spacer in the front due to the increased angle on the R&P. Seems to me it would cause it to wear out quickly.
