So I just bought a 02 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L Auto and the previous owner at some point put 12.... TWELVE quarts of oil in the engine.. I went around the block drained out about 4 to get me home. The truck misfires pretty bad and I figured it was due to oil seeping past the ring and fouling the plugs. I changed the oil and put in the correct amount, then I let it run for a bit to try to clear out some oil. I changed all the plugs and 2 were completely soaked with oil. There was no way those 2 were firing. I figured great itll run much better.. I even turned the truck over a few times to try to shoot more oil out before putting new plugs in. After new plugs it started up and was running better but still an obvious misfire. I can't really cruise at a pace without going into O/D to up the RPMs otherwise it starts shuttering. My question is I guess what do I do at this point? I removed battery and now I don't get check light (P 0300 code was there) but im sure its going to come back. The ignition coils don't look bad and i cleaned any oil in/on them.
Update.. i reset codes a p0307 came up. Pulled that coil off and no change in the engine so i put a spark plug in it and i can see it sparking. Not sure how it's not firing then.. a tested another one that wasn't firing and it also shows spark. Kind of at my wits end here but I'll swap around coil packs and see if that helps ..
