Default new quiet exhaust.

Just got my rhino liner sprayed this last saturday and now im gonna get CAI and some exhaust. I would like some exhaust that is just a little louder than factory at idle, but really sings when I push it up over like 3500 RPMs and is near factory quiet when running down the highway at 2000 RPMs....is there such a thing or am I dreaming? would also like single outlet on the passenger side behind the back wheel.

would also like to stay under $500. [sm=helpout.gif]

on a side note, Rhino liner rocks, I put my diamond plated dog box in the back of my truck up by the cab and mashed the throttle on my hemi and the box went NO WHERE, with linex in my buddies F-250 he has to strap his dog box down.

on another side note you would think with 345 hp and 375 ft lbs of torque a guy could spin his tires on a truck from a dead stop...not the case for me though. [:@] is that normal? 4x4 hemi 3.92 LSD single cab short bed

One of the DynoMax Stainless Steel UltraFlos in the 'RV' class that is 34 inches long, 6 inches in diameter with 3, 3.5 or 4 inch inlet/outlet will do what you want sound wise with low backpressure.

http://www.dynomax.com/documents/rv_specs.pdf

Try to install it so that the length from muffler end to exhaust tip is either greater than 70 inches, or less than 55 inches - otherwise you will get a 'drone' in the 1800-2200 rpm range where so much highway cruising is done.

Edelbrock has a new muffler design that I haven't tried that might be worthwhile:

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...mufflers.shtml

the chamber marked 2 is a 'Helmholz Resonator' designed to get rid of 1800-2200 rpm drone so that the tailpipe length won't act like a church pipe organ and be as sensitive to that 70 to 55 inch length.

If you are on a budget, you can always just remove the resonator and if you don't like the sound of it, put it back on.

It will give you a little more noise when on the throttle and remain fairly quiet at cruise and idle.

If you do go with a catback, keep the old exhaust incase you don't like the new exhaust.

A flowmaster 50 series did the trick for me! I am a night worker.so i dont want to wake the whole neighborhood when i come home,so you and i had the same criteria when looking for a muffler.I had the 50 series installed and left the resinator on and got a low throaty idle, but when ya mash on it it realy comes alive.mine cost 160$ installed and 45$ for an exhaust tip.Well within your price range

I went with the HD version, since i left the resinator on,if you go with the rv version you will probubly end up taking it off,it will be too quiet.

Just take it to a muffler shop that has the particular muffler series in stock and have them weld it up. I say muffler 'series' because any good shop will have a few different configurations and one is bound to be the perfect one for your truck
