Gauge Cluster Programming
I just ordered a used cluster for my 05 dodge ram 1500. I was wondering if I was to wire it up to bench test it, if there was a way to send power to somthing in the back that would tic ip the mileage? If so what would it be? I ordered a cluster with less mileage than my current truck and I'd like it to read close to it. I don't care about getting the vin programed into it and I really don't want to send it off to be programed. I just wanted to know if there was a way to trick the cluster into adding more miles onto it.
There is likely a way to do it, however, it is unlikely that method would be available to anyone but a dealer, or whomever they send their clusters out to for programming. Too much potential for folks to spoof mileage.... This has been a thing since the 90's, when GM was using digital clusters in some vehicles.
Cluster gets all of its information of what to do with the various lights and gauge needles over the communications bus. There is no direct speed sensor signal to the cluster. So not as easy as just powering the speedo to 100 mph for a while. So it's either send it out somewhere, or, run with the mileage that's on the cluster.
