Hi all just after a bit of help. I was coming home in my 2006 1500 ram when the rpm showed 1000 at 60 mph. I pushed throttle a bit and it went upto 1500. It kept doing this and then at a junction it went to nothing. Any suggestions as a bit worried to take it out at the moment.

 

Does the engine seem to be running ok? is the tach just lying to you? I think you should be right about 2k rpm at 60mph or so..... Tach gets its clue what to display from the PCM. It has no idea what the engine is actually doing.... so, if the tach just isn't reading right, but the engine is running fine, likely an issue with the cluster.

RPM gauge failure is common on 2006's

The instrument cluster. The little area where all of your gauges are clustered together.

Check all your connectors. If they seem good you probably have a faulty cluster. Good luck.
