Default 2005 Ram 1500 Error Code

P0404 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Range/Performance

I did the ignition on, off , on , off , on trick and the code came up as P0404.
Does any one have any idea on what that means exactly and is it some thing that needs
to taken care of right away.
Thanks

Well not sure what it means, but since you have a 05 why worry about it. Just drop it off at the dealer and let them repair.

P0404 is an EGR valve postion sensor problem. Most likely the EGR valve needs to be replaced. I've had one on order for over a week. Seems there is a supply problem right now. There's been a rash of problems lately with EGR valves. It may seem to be OK now. Mine was when it first tripped. However, the last two days have been dicey. Truck stumbles at low RPM and most often dies. RPMs dip quite a bit and the truck is running lean. I would not let it go too long, but if your luck is like mine, there won't be one available to replace it.

Thanks for the help. I got in my truck tonight and the light went out.
How ever if I do the code check it still shows.
I think its best to have it checked out.
Thanks again

I also have the same problem. I am getting codes P0404 and P0406. The dealership has the part, but I don't have the time to change it myself and the dealership will do it, but only after there $80 manditory inspection, which has to be paid whether they do the work or not. Any advise on how to or how long it takes to change the EGR Valve.

I have a 05' with the p0406 code as well. Where is the EGR valve located on the engine? Is it an easy replacement?

buy it at an auto parts store, the going rate is $39.95, and it's a 10 minute, one tool swap. The location and procedure is covered on here at least monthly, so do a search for EGR and you'll find it for sure...
