I've been having trouble with an intermittent no crank, no start issue. This is on a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7.
Sometimes the issue would resolve itself, start up and get me to work or home, but would shut off suddenly while driving. Then, without me cycling the key or anything, it would come back to life. The problem got worse and worse until eventually, the no crank issue became permanent.
After throwing a few cheap and easy parts at it with no luck, I learned about the TIPM. Upon investigation, I discovered a broken wire under the TIPM. It is at the back of connector C4, the small grey connector going to the bottom of the TIPM. A wiring diagram I found indicates that this wire is likely for the fused ignition switch (start/run).
I know that a bad connection for the ignition switch can cause a no crank, no start issue. My question is, can it cause the truck to shut off while it's running? Attached are a couple pictures to help showcase what I've got going on.
The diagram states that the fused ignition switch output wire is pink, but the one in the truck appears to be more red. I do have a new C4 connector on its way from Mak's.
If the TIPM uses that signal to determine if it should have the ASD relay, and Fuel pump relay engaged, then yeah, a bad connection there can most certainly cause some issues.
