Default Headlight trouble.

So this is really odd when I got the truck the only headlight that worked was the driver side high beam. I didn't have a lot of time to work on it but I found the passenger headlight would turn on if I ran a wire from the ground to the main ground connection. The head light stays on until I unhook the wire. I'm looking to see if anyone knows where I should start with troubleshooting.

You can find wiring diagrams for your truck here. Have a look at how the headlights are *supposed* to work, and see what part of the circuit is failing.....

Thank you, I will read up about it. I was also looking to see if people with more experience think this is a wiring issue or the TIPM itself.

Ouch.... Lookin' at it, the headlight switch just suggests to the TIPM what you want to happen..... TIPM decides if it actually DOES happen. Headlamps are individually controlled from there..... So, yeah, I am thinkin' that's is likely a TIPM issue. See if you are getting power TO the headlamps, if not...... Probably TIPM.

That's what I was thinking, but since the one headlight does work, I was hoping it might just be a ground issue.

TIPM Supplies power to the headlights, ground is a hard connection..... so, apply power, and they work, there are individual drivers for each headlight..... so, it's possible to have all of them working, or none, or anything in between.... I don't know how 'repairable' those circuits would be in the TIPM..... Never had one apart....
