Is the rear end clips a common problem?
Saint mentioned that the clips on the LSD rear end breaking up is a common problem. How many of you out there have had this problem I wonder? Will this fix solve the problem for the rest of the life of my truck? You can bet I'm going to check the rear end again at 69,000 miles or my 83rd month. Maybe it time to consider a different brand of truck.

It seems to have been a bit to common for comfort.
A quick and easy fix/uprgade is to get an aftermarket LSD unit for the rearend. My factory unit is sitting on a shelf in the garage.
That problem alone was not nearly enough to sway me from buying another Dodge. All brands have issues. The Chevy and Ford boards will read very much like the Dodge boards.
Such is life.
By the way, the new Detroit works waaaay better.

The Detroit Truetrac is not a locker in the truest sense. It is actually a limited slip that is completely mechanical with no clutch packs. The street manners are nearly identical to the factory unit under normal driving. When you put your foot in it around a corner however, it likes to lite em up pretty good. There is no ratcheting or poor tire wear like a "locker".
I am very impressed so far. The trail performance alone makes it worth every penny for me as i'm normally off road every other weekend in the mountains or desert.
Next is the winch.......i'm going shopping Saturday! [sm=bounceybounce.gif]

How's the drivability of the Detroit? Lots of tire chirps around corners? Feel the back end coming out on slick roads?

I'm sure they would inspect it first. I you tell them there is a noise maybe they would take a closer look at it.

Valkyrie,
If your looking to replace your stock unit at some time, i would call the guys at West Coast Differential 1-800-559-0950. I picked up my Truetrac there and they have good customer service and are willing to answer alot of questions and what not.
Good luck
