Default Starter randomly doesn't work.

So I've been having my starter randomly not work. It would start, click, then do nothing but the gauges wouldn't do the low battery shimmy sometimes it takes 5-6 tries before it works. If that fails I'd go under it and tap it with a hammer and it works. Replacing starter didn't solve it. I did notice while I was under there the little side wire for the starter is pretty chewed up and doesn't latch but it started fine when i replaced it. Has anyone else had that connector the issue? I've failed to find a replacement locking connector for that little spade terminal so if anyone has it please do tell me.

The next time it does that, try putting the shifter into neutral. It might be something like a bad neutral safety switch. If thgata doesn't help, you're no worse off. If it does, you saved some time and money.

Do you know what wires go to the sensor? I haven't had much luck getting the old wiring diagrams working on newer browsers ever since explorer was discontinued.

Not off hand. Your truck is getting old enough the switch might be worn. Give it a try and go from there.
