2005 1500 4x4 shudders and shakes all of a sudden.

over the summer the linkage fell off my 4x4, rubber grommets and linkage were gone. Replaced the a couple of months ago. But truck won’t engage 4hi. So went out and fiddled with it again. Will go into neutral but won’t budge into 4 hi.

Not sure if the two issues are related though. It snowed 7-8 inches here. I went to the store and drove around a bit tonight. About 3-4 miles of in town driving. Pulled into the driveway and over a little snow pile. Backed up a little and felt a shudder and shake. Backed out my driveway all the way and felt it all the way backing up. (About 50 yards or so. Put it in drive and feel it all the way up the drive way.

shut the truck off and bunch of smoke coming from underneath the truck couldn’t tell from where. Looked like the muffler, but it was way more than a typical cold day smoke. Wasn’t any snow packed anywhere I could see.

no codes, engine has 18,000 miles on it and it’s stock transmission with 150,000 miles on it and the truck.
