Can you add heated seats? Dodge Ram
Hi guys - this fall I got "legit" to join this forum, by finally buying a great, low mileage 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab. I got interested with all the employee pricing ads, but wanted a diesel - and they weren't offering much discount on a truck in demand. So, I did the next best thing to save ~10k, by turning to eBay motors...
Well I found and bought a great truck! No regrets, but only one detail I overlooked at the time - I thought the Laramie package with leather had heated seats by default. Apparently it doesn't because this is about the only thing this truck doesn't have. From the records I understand why - it was originally ordered by some guy in Miami. I never noticed until it got cold. Well, in places that get real winter, my behind seems to take a long time to warm up that leather! And I really don't want some crappy pad to plug into the power outlet.
So, does anyone know if this is an option that can be field added? It would seem a good home project if things like the wiring harness is all there and I just need to order the right dash switches and resistive pads. I just dropped by the local dealer's parts department, and the guy there had no clue, thought I would need a Chrysler engineer and big bucks (no interest in finding out or helping).
Would appreciate any advice!
Thanks

I know there are two different Laramie packages (H and J)
The H is the better of the two....this is the one I have and it came with leather/suede and heated seats (both power too)
Maybe you got the J and it doesnt come with heated??? Not totally sure...not sure why the guy would bother to delete the option though since it comes standard anyway and all he has to do is not turn it on...... (i think you would only save about 140 by not ordering them)
I dunno....you should ask the dealership why it doesnt have them....or just read the option list for a 2500 laramie and see whats up...
either way...Im sure you could still have them added at a dodge dealership. (my heated seat buttons are located in the 3rd din down on the center bezel...right next to my transfer case selector ****...see my gallery for where the buttons are located.)
I would go with having a dodge dealership add it and have them mount the factory buttons where they should be....dont have a hack job on a nice 40k truck.

if the factory units dont work, you can always get them from the aftermarket. You can add them with the aftemarket. I am not sure at how you install them but I have been looking at leather kits for my ram an autoleathers.com sells them as an option with there kits. I made a link to the poin in the build your own kit that they ask you the question to add them. The were like 149 each seat. Seams high to me
going through the dealer would probably be very expensive to get the heater units. I saw a few aftermarket companies that sell similar units that are put in the seats and then wired to a switch. I dont remember the prices and if you dont want to take your seats apart to put them in you will probably have to go to an upholstery shop to get it done. shouldnt be more than a couple hundred bucks in the end.
Sorry I cant be of much help but I know that you can add the heated seats. When I bought my truck I had dealer install the heated seats, the buttons are on the dashone for each side with high and low. Can't remember what it cast because it was all included in the price. Looks like factory
Yea you can do yours yourself if your semi handy with some basic tools. I am doing mine before winter falls around again. Just do a search on the net for heated seat kits. You'll find several online stores. I found them from 100/ seat to 400 p/seat depending what you wanted. I couldn't find the truck that had what I wanted on it. Actually the only reason I wanted the Larrmie was for the heated seats and 4x4 ****. but $hit I saved thousands and got a loaded ram with everything except the ****, suade in the seats and the heated seats. no biggie.
On my 04 ram laramie they came standard. i'd go back to your dealier and ask him.
