climate control sucks hard
My truck was passed down to me when my grandfather passed away. It is a 2008 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi lone star edition. Ever since I have had the truck the ac and heat; 1: blow hotter/colder on the passenger side, 2: have only been able to be pointed at face (defrost, legs and other things do not work, **** doesn't do anything), 3: blows hot when its hot out, cold when its cold out, and if I want the heat or the ac to be lukewarm or just a smidge chill I need to wait for about an hour with it on blast. the entire cooling system and most of the dash and heater/ac components was replaced using a donor truck he bought many years ago. Sometimes when the ac/heat is off it'll just randomly blow air through the vents, not really an issue just thought it was odd. I also had a moment last summer when i thought my ac had locked up on me because it stopped moving and dropped the power like crazy, but then it fixed itself I guess. When I lived in kansas the truck sucked to drive in the winter and now I'm in texas and it sucks even more to drive in the summer, and the truck is black. Any way for me to fix any of these issues or should I bite the bullet and shell out the cash for a all new system? Or who knows maybe I'll ignore it forever.
Going to need more information on the specs of the truck, does it have dual climate control *****? Sounds like your biggest issue is the blend and mode doors are not functions properly either due to broken doors which is very common on these trucks, or bad actuator, or a combination of both. The donor swap more or less gave you nothing, im not sur ethe reason it was swapped. Hopefully if the dash panel was changed the HVAC control stayed with the truck, or at least matches the HVAC unit installed.
Without being there to diag problems in person. I would be looking at planning to replace both the heater core and evaporator with NEW parts, while the hvac is removed verify all door operations and check for broken doors, replace all would be a recommendation but could be spendy if not needed, sounds like for sur ethe mode door is not working (controls feet face defrost) blend door is a lead follow system and you can verify external actuator movement under the glovebox, however you cant know for fact the blend door is actually moving.
