Default RE: Need ALARM advice 04' RAM

i am getting ready to have an alarm and all four electric locks installed ... i'll make sure to tell them to mount the brain elsewhere ... one more thing that was reccommended to me was to install a simple and hidden fuel pump cutoff switch ... science behind that is that if the engine doesn't turn over (as with an ignition kill) the thief knows he needs to bypass the switch ... on the off chance he finds it the engine will be allowed to turn but their will be no fuel so he'll leave it thinking there is something wrong with the truck ... trick is to mount the switch somewhere accessible but hidden ... this is a simple toggle switch ... what do you guys think?

Yes!!
Good Idea!!

There are all kinds of different options for installing kill switches!!

You can hook them to your fuel pump,if you do that the engine will turn over, but Not crank!!
You can hook them to your main ignition wire to your starter!Wont do anything!
You can rig 1 to your ECM,again, wont do anything!
You can simply PULL the ECM fuse and take it with you!

I saw 1 guy had his ignition kill rigged to the cig lighter!Push it in,start, when you exit the vehicle take the lighter,or leave it!!
What thief is going to think about pushing in the cig lighter to start?
I saw another 1 that had the kill switch hooked to the DS seatbelt wire!
You have to Fasten the seatbelt for the vehicle to start!
I saw another 1,that had a tiny momentary switch hidden under the carpet, right below the gas pedal!
Simply Press the pedal to the floor, release and start!

Use your Imagination!!

OK
Here's my Opinion on Remote Start!

It's OK on Trucks/Cars without the Factory anti-theft!(Black head keys)

On Trucks/Cars with the factory anti-theft(Gray head keys),What I've seen when they install these is they have to Cut 1 of your keys, remove the chip and attach it somewhere to the column!!

I've seen theis done on Dodge,Ford,and Chevy's

This pretty much ByPasses the Factory anti theft alltogether, since the chip is already there to complete the circuit!

And it is True!!!The club is pretty much useless!!

All it takes is a small pair of Bolt Cutters or a hack saw,cut the wheel, bend a bit, slides right off!!
I have seen Many cut wheels!!
Then your out a Leather Wrapped steering wheel too!

That said,The More Anti Thefts you have the better off you are!!
The truck Next to yours may have less, they will choose that 1 instead,Easier Target!

Anything thats going to Slow them down a bit.
A good alarm with ignition/starter disable,a club,and or Brake lock,hood lock,and you could even add a "Back-up"kill switch!
There are Many different ways to add additional kill switches!

Got to add this on the club - We were in Dallas and my guys were boring a creek to run some telecom fiber. At the bottom of the creek was a whole steering wheel with - yep you guessed it - the "club" securely in place. I guess the thieves just jerked the whole steering wheel and either used vice grips or another steering wheel. It was from and older, non-airbag type steering wheel.

I highly recommend the Viper 791xv. Had 4 of them now and wouldnt purchase a different alarm. It has everything you could want, and it also has a strong NAME.
