Default Need ALARM advice 04' RAM

I have a 04 Ram, and NO alarm. Rams are hot items right now and all I have is a 'Club' a friend of mine had his Ram stolen with a factory alarm, the other had 'Club' bent off somehow and left behind. What Alarm is worth getting? Kill switch? Thanks for any advice.

I am a "Steering Column Repair Specialist"
I've been in this buisness going on 14 years!!
Yes,I fix Busted columns from theft!!
You are correct in saying Dodge Trucks are HOT Targets!!
Most Late model Mopar products are!!

They are way to EZ to steal!!

That said,Speaking of alarms!
The main thing you want to make sure of is that the Alarm system you are considering has an Ignition Kill!!

The Most Important part of an alarm system is the INSTALL!!!!
I'll say it again,it's all in the INSTALL!!

These guy's/gurls who sell these alarm systems are out for the Sale!!
I have NEVER seen an alarm system Properly installed,Unless it was done by the owner!!

The MAIN mistake they make is Mounting the Alarm BRAIN right under the dash, usually attached to the bottom of the steeringcolumn!!
If you read the directions of the alarm installation, thats the 1st and Main thing it say's NOT to DO!!!
Reason being is,a thief can stick his/her hand under your dash, feel for the alarm Brain, rip it out,Now your High Dollar alarm is USELESS!!!

I spent an entire saturday rigging my alarm system to my truck!

Take your time, take some dash components apart!!

I put my alarm Brain on the Passenger side of the truck,Behind the airbag!!
Then I use electrical tape to wrap all the alarm wires in "Factory Looking"bundles.
Another words you want to HIDE all signs of your alarm!!!
That way even if they Look under your dash, they will not see anything except factory Looking wires!!

1 more thing!!

After your alarm is all installed, you will also want to add a hood lock!
This way they cant simply POP your hood;while the alarm is sounding and just RIP the Alarm Siren wire, allowing them more time to Work on your truck!

Also,I have a Hard Toneo<sp> cover.
I also wired a pin switch to it,that way if my topper is lifted it will also trigger the alarm!

Thats it!!
I hope this helps!

Good luck on your alarm install!!

Truthfully I dont have a hood lock on the Ram yet!!

I have Not found 1 for it yet!

Although a bit Bulky You can use a cable and padlock to secure your hood.

I have a Prestige alarm, but as I mentioned any good alarm with an ignition kill will do!
As LONG AS IT"S INSTALLED PROPERLY!

You could even go 1 step further and add an extra Kill switch if you wanted.

I picked up a Viper 671XV from Best buy and had them install it. Has a reciever fob to let me know if its being tampered with because I DO pack, haha. They did install the brain under the dash though, I'm gonna have to have that moved now that you mentioned it. I also had to remind them to install the ignition kill switch. Make sure you know and understand the options before you have it installed. The real reason I had it installed is because it drops my insurance, so check on that. Cost me about $428 total.

Steering, where can I get a hoodlock for my ram?

Free advice to everyone. Don't mess with WingViper's Ram.

There was this one guy who tried to steal it. The alarm foiled him and alerted WingViper. He scrambled his F-16, tracked him down in the dark using his LANTIRN pod, and nailed him with a GBU-15 laser guided bomb. He made a second pass and put a few 20mm rounds into him for good measure.

If you were to try to steal his Ram now he'd probably chase you down in an MH-60G Pave Hawk and drop a squad of Rangers or Seals on you're head while his gunners open up on you with those 7.62mm mini guns in the doors.

This is the alarm I have in my Daytona -- Python 881XP 2-Way Security and Remote Start System with Responder Technology
http://www.directed.com/security/pyt..._responder.asp I spent $550.00 on it BUT well worth it. (I think) has everything I wanted in an alarm, remote start, and with the remote start in opp. you have to press the brake ped to put it in gear, well as soon as you hit the brake the truck dies. also has a Invisibeam Field Disturbance Sensor (paid extra) http://www.directed.com/security/access/sensor.asp page remote up to 1/4 mile away, if the alarm it just a warning to someone the remote still let you know, if its a true alarm it tells you what part of the truck was entered via the remote LED. also has a anti-carjack feature, how that works is while your driving you set the alarm and IF lets say he held a gun to the window and told you to get out.... you just tap the brake and let him take it....... he will only get 30secs to 1min how ever long you wanna set it for and the truck will DIE !!! An there is NO WAY it will re-start unless you know the code to restart it.... I LUV that one !!! and many more features... I also have a club for the brake pedal. DONT waste your money on the reg. CLUB it takes less then 5mins to cut though the steering wheel with a reg. hack saw (I did it on a junk car)

check it out...... GREAT BUY... I had CURCUIT CITY do mine and has no problems. An they hid the brain unit so far under the dash you need to take off almost all the plastic to get to it. Took a day for them to do it ten hrs start to finish BUT WELL worth it.

Hope this helps.... good luck

OK
Here's my Opinion on Remote Start!

It's OK on Trucks/Cars without the Factory anti-theft!(Black head keys)

On Trucks/Cars with the factory anti-theft(Gray head keys),What I've seen when they install these is they have to Cut 1 of your keys, remove the chip and attach it somewhere to the column!!

I've seen theis done on Dodge,Ford,and Chevy's

This pretty much ByPasses the Factory anti theft alltogether, since the chip is already there to complete the circuit!

And it is True!!!The club is pretty much useless!!

All it takes is a small pair of Bolt Cutters or a hack saw,cut the wheel, bend a bit, slides right off!!
I have seen Many cut wheels!!
Then your out a Leather Wrapped steering wheel too!

That said,The More Anti Thefts you have the better off you are!!
The truck Next to yours may have less, they will choose that 1 instead,Easier Target!

Anything thats going to Slow them down a bit.
A good alarm with ignition/starter disable,a club,and or Brake lock,hood lock,and you could even add a "Back-up"kill switch!
There are Many different ways to add additional kill switches!
