HID Lamps and fogs
I did the piaa xtreme white plus it brighter than the sylvania but cost more around 70 bucks for the pair. If your consider H.I.D you will lose your high beams then you"ll have the enjoyment of re-aiming them what a pain, then you will pissed when people flash their highbeams at you and you cant flash em back. I did hyper whites in the headlights and the H.I.D for the fogs killer combo.
I work in the automotive aftermarket industry and D.O.T and SEMA just agreed on such matters as H.I.D conversions. They are perfectly legal. All they have to do is comply to normal D.O.T standards. The "simulated" H.I.D's such as the Salvina's and PIAA's use Wattage with a different gas to obtain that color. The problem with that is the extra wattage tends to melt the factory wire harness if you don't buy the High temp harness adaptors. I had an F-350 that I had put thoes bulbs in for a few weeks, I didn't have any real problems that I noticed except that the bulb kept going bad, but the bulb didn't look bad. After a long trip to Atlanta from Chicago, I noticed that my Hi beam indicator lamp was dimly lit and one of my head lamp bulbs was also not bright. I thought I burned out another bulb. Turns out that the extra heat from the bulb melted the socket of the factory harness. Luckly I replaced the factory bulbs and took it to the dealer and Ford took care of it with out any questions. I would be careful using thoes bulbs. Plus most of thoes simulated bulbs that actually look kinda like HID's arn't DOT approved and are for off road only. I had bought an actuall HID conversion. Just did a search and found one for 200.00 and put it in my 99 couger and man what a difference. HID has a way wider beam. You can see every deer on the side of the road way before they catch you by supprize. Also street signs light up like their on fire. I would save your money on thoes cheep bulbs and go the real route. I know you will never be sorry you did. I am going to do the conversion for my Hi and low beams and also my fog lights. Did that combo on my Cobra and damn Its like driving in the day. Hope this helps.
The word "Xenon" is a buzz word that is thrown around at produts that are not Xenon or HID light system. There is no such thing as buying a bulb to upgrade to true HID or Xenon lights. It will only color the light output but is far from the lumen output of a true HID system.
The look that most people think of when they say they want HID is really the projector lens. It gives the color blue/white or rainbow flicker when viewing off axis. The better the lens quality, the whiter/blue the look is with a 4100K or 4300k Philips bulb. The optimal color is blue/white. Purple/white or blue has less lumens or (light output). Philips or Osram/Sylvania German made bulbs are the best. HID or Xenon lights need a projector to aim and focus the light. A high quality projector lens makes a huge difference with the end result. The components are Ballast, Ignitor, and Bulb.
The bulb does not have a filament but rather is filled with Xenon gass. The ignitor sends a quick 20,000 volt charge to get the xenon gas burning at start up. When lit the ballast keeps the reaction going with very little power (about 35 watts).
I have upgrade my factory HID system in my German sportscar to a high out-put or(Stage III HID headlight). It upgrades the typical 35watt ballast to a 50watt system made by Auerswald. It is the best of the best and is the brightest light you can buy. The ballast system is used in underwater subs. (It is so bright that it will basically set fire to the cars rear bumper infront of you that will not get out of the passing lane
) I would'nt retrofit HIDs in the Ram. Its not necessary on a truck unless you are racing at high speeds off road. Get a bulb replacment like "Silverstars". They will give you more bluer/white look and are brighter than stock and are alot cheaper than buying a projector lens, ballast, ignitor, bulb, retrofitting it and doing it the right way.

have you done the conversion yet on your ram?
have you done the conversion yet on your ram?
Yes and I am definatley happy with the results. Much crisper light then stock. Not to bad of an install, but I had a problem getting the housing out, but I am not sure if that was because of the Hemi Sport kit, or if it would happen on all. Either way, once I figured it out, the other side took about 25 minutes. Definatley worth it.

Yes I am in the process in doing the conversion to my ram now. I just bought the projector headlamp kit and waiting for the kit to get here so I know what style bulb to get. I believe there H1's but I want to make sure so I don't have the wrong size. I didn't buy the projector headlamps because I needed them, I bought them because I think they look sick on the ram. The guy who said you need projector headlamps is 100% incorrect. You don't need any projector headlamps to use the headlights. HID conversions are sold with beam correction. Check out the factory cars and trucks that come factory equiped with HID's not all have projectors. They look more hi-end and european. but the Linclon MarkVIII has HID's in a normal reflector headlamp like our stock rams, Lexus, Nissan, Caddy's all have HID's with out projector headlamps. its just a styling thing. granted thoes Projectors are supppose to disperse lights better but I actually didn't see much of a difference with either one. there may be a small difference in beam pattern but nothing worth spending the extra $$$ if you don't think the lights look sick too. They will work awsome with the stock housings.
Here is a link to HID, HID kits, aiming and everthing you need to know.clicky....HID info
Projectors are not "just a styling thing" As for Cadillac and Lynclon, only their top models ie..C6 Vett, have a true projector HID system so what does that tell you? Their non-projector HID systems are not even close to a euro spec HID system.
If you really want cutting edge lighting, look into LED. It is the next evolution of headlights. Audi is already adopted it in their upcoming supercar. As for HID's, there is no half-way with the system. You either go with swapout light housing that uses proper projectors or save the coin$$ and just get a set of "Silverstars".

The guy who owns that site is a complete jerkoff. I wrote to him asking him what Bulbs to use when I wanted the SilverStars since he says they are not good and he only recomends the bulbs he sells. He'll talk crap about all bulbs unless they are the ones he sells. Do you really think companies like PIAA and Sylvania would make lights that are illegal and dangerous as he calls them, and the HID kits he dosent recomend them since he wont sell them he says theres no kit out there that is safe to use on vehicles who had halogens from new. the guy is full of him self. You want some good advice dont read that site, he does have some truth to his site but the majority is BS.
