I seen posts about Royal Purple. Any thoughts on that?

Save your money. Change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles using the dino oil of your choice and your engine will not suffer an oil related failure.

I put 242,000 miles on a Ford Ranger with a 2.9L V6 and 175,000 miles on a Jeep Cherokee with a 2.8L V6 and never had a problem with the Castrol oil I used. Think how much money I saved...

Mobil One has never beaten Amsoil at anything.

dont see the need to go "crazy" over searching for the PRIMO oils.

I went with Mobil 1 extended performance the other day because i wanna have longer intervals between changes for now on....my oil changes with Mobil 1 synthetic at 5k miles have always shown the oil to be perfect!!!...so the oil is clean and the motor is healthy!

its a Dodge Ram...not a high performance motor...save your money...you wont notice a difference between ANY synthetics that you choose! Mobil 1, Amsoil, Royal Purple....all good...all fine!!!

and cmon....please someone dont say that you noticed a difference in performance!!!!! the only thing that will be noticeable in both performance and gas mileage...is the weight and viscosity that you choose!

I have used Amsoil for about the last 4 or 5 years ran it in my truck,snowmobile,4 weeler, and my boat you will also notice the engine temp runs a little cooler no special filter but you need to get there engine flush, just pour it in with the old oil let it idle for about 20 min and drain it then your ready for the good stuff
ORIGINAL: fire10

Is there a certian oil filter i need to use with AMSOIL??

I'm not a fan of synthetic engine oil, unless the car was designed to run it, in which case it usually has a 10-15K change interval (anyone seen the crossfire oil setup, it has an oil condition sensor that tells you when it needs a change, no scheduled interval, most of 'em need it around 15K miles, all synthetic). I do like AMSoil's gear and manual tranny fluids. I had those in my old Dakota, the manual fluid was cheaper than the MOPAR stuff, I think the gear box liked it better too, and I'm a big fan of their 75W-90 gear lube, no need for friction modifier in that stuff.

I have Amsoil in my truck now. I was able to notice a change in power after it was in there. Definately a little more "pep" when you hit the gas, or when accelerating. Not really an better mileage though. My buddy owns an A/C, Heating, and Refrig company with an entire fleet of vehicles. He uses nothign but Amsoil, and has never had one oil related problem.
For those that are commenting about the cost, it's actually about the same price as Mobil 1 (approx $4/quart), and then just add in shipping. The bonus is that with Amsoil, you change it at 25K mile intervals, with only an oil filter change required at 12,500. Way mroe life than anything else out there. (And yes, my friend with the a/c company does the 25K/12.5K change intervals).
