I also do not buy new. I got my 04 Ram Quad Cab (fully loaded) with a Hemi with only 13K for $14K. Straight as a whistle and fast as they come. Had billet grill and hood scoop, thought it is not 4x4 but I did not really need all that.

can you please elaborate on your purchase.
What model SLT / Laramie / etc.....what options (wheels/interior/accessories,etc) thanks
an 04 with just 13k miles and "fully loaded" like you say for just 14k???? that makes me VERY nervous to hear.

$12,000??? I went to kelly blue book and looked mine up, it said $20,000...mines an 05 hemi r/c slt...i paid 25k for mine after rebates...12k is ridiculous...plus if you try to sell to carmax, sure they are going to give you the shaft...just like when my mom took my dads old 73 camaro in and traded it for a 1999 corsica...they gave her (mind you this is a classic, great condition car with bigger 10:1 pistons in) $1000...if you really want to sell it, do it yourself...carmax is a rip off anyway i went shopping there for my first truck, they were way too high....

Dealers will give you the trade in value you find on KBB.com. When I bought my Ram they tried to give me less for my 03 Ranger, I had a print out of the trade in from KBB and then they said, oh, ok, no problem.
Or.... You can sell out right and get more.
Mine on kbb is 21K trade and a little over 24K for private party sale. The private party value is a starting point, generally negociated down from there. At least that is what it says on kbb.com

Believe it or not, the reason 05 Rams dropped value so much is because of those rebates. If you think about it, would you pay lets say $23000 for a used truck with 7000 miles when you can get a brand new one for the same price? Add to that when financing new, the ave buyer gets a much lower interest rate. Add to that the 06 is considered a new model and the 05 is now the "old" body style. I have a 05 1500 reg short box and love it. The drop in value only worries me if I wreck it, as I do not have gap insurance.

RE: Bad Bad News
I bought an 06 Mega Cab 2500 diesel in November called the dealership back and spoke to my sales lady and they offered to buy it back. It retailed for 44K but I was able to get it for 38K out the door. Got 4500 miles on it and they would give me 32 for it. 6K down the chute in less than 3 months. [:@]

I bought my 02 quad cab 4x4, with the 5.9 V8 used in 2004. I love the truck, and to this day it is still worth more than I paid for it. I walked away with it for 16,800 and the blue book on it now is 17,800, so I feel pretty good about my buy and once again sometimes buying new is not always best. But we all have to realize that no matter what you have it is only worth what someone is willing to give you for it!
