Default Undercoating yes/no

I will be picking up my truck in a couple days and was wondering on if I should spring for the undercoating. $300.00 for a ten year warranty. Do I need it, are the Dodge trucks that bad with rust? One friend said I should get it and another said it's a waste of money.
One said the undercoating traps the moisture and causes rust. The other has a 25 year old truck that was undercoated and has no rust at all. Here in Connecticut we have a lot of sand and salt and I'm wanting to keep this truck for a while. Let's hear it from some of the older trucks out there, how has yours held up?

No need, save teh $300 and buy yourself a flowmaster muffler. If you are that worried about it, everytime you wash the truck spray the bottom with a hose. That's what I do. The frame will not rust that fast.

It would be a waste, just like the $995 Evironmental Protection Package that many dealerships try to cram down your throat.

another vote for waste.

not to mention i have heard horror stories of people buying the undercoating and the dealer doing a **** job and not covering it all the way.

put that coating in the bed, if it doesn't already have a liner...mine was about $400, looks real nice! I lived in Corpus Christi for the first 8 months I had my truck...it was constantly at sandy/salty places when fishing, or at the beach...like the other guys said, go to a self-wash and make sure you spray it all off real good with high-powered pressure water...at least once every 2 weeks, if not more...

Thanks Guys! It came with the Bed liner. I guess I'll spend the money on the exhaust!

Well now I would say it all depends on your area and what your going to be driving on.

If your in a area that salts the road, I would consider getting the coating. If your going to be doing a lot of non-pavement driving (1/4 mile from your place to pavement) then I would consider getting it then to.

Otherwise, screw it!

I drove my un-undercoated Ford Fiesta in Germany where they salt the roads all the time. No rust when I left three years later.
Like above, I took it to the self wash car wash once a week and rinsed it well..........

Bilbox, I did get the undercoating for mine, and while I'll never really know for sure if the coating really helped or not, I wanted to give my truck a chance to last for a very long time. So far, not rust---but only 18k miles. I live in northern Indiana near the 80/90 toll road
