Default Cut off the resonator?

I have had my Hemi for all of a week now, and I just ordered my Tonneau cover today. I also am like everyone else and want a little more noise from the the exhaust. Before I plunk down $$$ for Flowmasters I have 2 questions. First; Can you cut off the resonator by the passenger rear tire and replace with a short piece of straight pipe without losing any performance? If I understand correctly, this is really just like a 2nd muffler meant to cut down on noise. Will cutting this out make much difference? How Much? Also, when I do go for exhaust, and I am leaning towards Flowmaster, just unsure of which sound I want (maybe the 50 series Big Block) has anyone bought the generic Cat Back from Jegs for their Hemi? My brother in law put this on his Z71, and I have to admit it sounds pretty good. Not loud-loud, just nice. Any input?
PS; If anyone is looking for a Tonneau cover, the one I ordered today online from autoanything.com, today is the last day for 10% off and free shipping. I saved $31 on the sportmasters tilting cover and no freight. I dont work for them!! Just thought it was a good deal (I paid $339 + S&H for the same on my Dakota about 2 years ago) And it is an awesone cover.

Dont cut off your resonator... leave it exactly where it is and cut off your muffler and then have it replaced with a peice of exhaust tubing. This will sound and perform better than ANY other setup available... and its almost free! Sone even waste your cash on a performance muff... you will not need it because your resonator is your NEW performance muff. .

I just read another post with a link for Aeroturbine 3030. Has anyone put one on? It sounds great on their site. Would you just put the 3030 in place of the muffler and get rid of resonator, or leave the resonator??

"Cut" it off...you mean take it off or take it out? Yeah it will make it louded...I personally don't think it makes the exhuast louder...its resonates sound directly from under the hood, hence the name resonator...yeah take resonator out/off...and get a cat back dual exhaust...

Why would you spend a ton of money on a dual cat back only to lose performance when you could spend under 50.00 and gain performance by just removing your "Muff" and keeping your resonator as your Muff... With the money you have left over you could purchase a performance "Y" pipe and an electric cut out... then you would have the BEST possible exhaust system possible for less than 200 bucks that would lay waist to ANY other overpriced CAT back system at the fraction of the price. I highly disagree with the cat back systems... just a waste of money...

Unless your after show and no go... then go for the DUAL CAT BACK ...

By they way.. your truck comes STOCK with a Stainless steel exhaust system... and most aftermarket systems are NOT SS... So in some cases you end up replacing your stock system (when it would in fact last a lifetime) for a system that offers less performance and less life span.

I have seen several customers who have done this mod and honestly it isnt that loud... it is louder than stock for sure but its a more agressive sound. If I could do it all over again thats exactly what I would do... but my truck came with a Flowmaster CAT BACK system and I honestly can not wait to get rid of it.... If someone in the DFW area would like to trade there stock system for my flowmaster CAT BACk system I will be more than happy to do so.... you pull yours off... I pull mine off...we swap and you install your NEW USED CAT back system and I will install my NEW USED STOCK system... ANY TAKERS? Im in Euless Texas right next to the DFW Airport. I have a 2002 4.7L Quad Cab.

Default RE: Cut off the resonator?

FYI, I just cut off my resonator the other night and the only difference I can tell is at start up, and off idle. My cold air intake is louder than the exhaust (from inside the cab), so cutting off the resonator isn't going to do much of anything for sound or performance. I'm not sure why DCX put the resonator on the 1500's anyway. They don't put them on the HD Ram's with Hemi's. DCX could have saved themselves a few pennies on that decision, hahaha. I'm just going to buy a 50 series HD muffler when I get the drive to order one up. Flowmaster has 3 or 4 different 50 series now. The one they include in most of their cat back kits are the "50 Series HD" muffler.... just my 2 cents.
