Some say to wait til the second oil change for break in purposes. My feelings on it are if your gonna start it then start it early and stay with it. My strat has had it since 3500 miles and no problems at all.

You will get ALOT faster and all the info you seek with the search button. Along with MPG threds this must be the most popular.

I would say do it early, the engine should be broken in by now.

I have 15700 miles on my truck and I need an oil change. I have been running Castrol 10w30 since the beginning. What advantages/disadvantages are there to synthetic oil? I heard I would get better mpg, I found this hard to believe, Is that true? Thanks for helping, I know nothing about synthetic oil.

Dude, you don't need synthetic oil, that's like $50 for an oil change. Unless your racing your truck or frequently hauling stuff, you really don't need to go synthetic. If you don't agree then just go ask somebody at your local auto shop.

You can switch to synthetic at yoru first oil change. Just be sure to use a quality brand like MObil-1 or valvoline so you know your gettign FULL syn. I use Mobil-1 5w-30 full synthetic in my HEMI since its factory fill in teh viper and srt-10 and srt-8 300c.

As far as advantages to synthetic oil. It flows better at low temps, protects your motor at higher temps, withstands oil breakdown, you can go till 4-5K miles between oil changes if you want ( i still change at 3000.) Its just a cleaner oil.

No there are not any MPG increase from it.

And just incase anyone forgot, once you switch to synthetic you cant go back to DINO!!

It is not more expensive.

20.99 for 5 qt jug at walmart.

Figure you can run more miles on synthetic, at least they say you can. So lets say it costs $20 more. But if you get more miles it works out. And you are not changing as often.

That's the best part. Longer change intervals.
