Default New to Dodge!

Well, I just traded in my Z28 for a 4X4 HEMI. This is by far my favorite vehicle I have owned.
I do have 2 quick questions though;

1. I have noticed a few "tire related" questions on this board RE: how big a tire the 17in wheel will accomodate, and most have said no bigger than a 275 or 285. The Chevy dealer I got the truck from Installed 4 brand new BF Goodrich AT KO 315/70/R17 since that was what was on it when they recieved the truck. My question is, is this ok? The truck has a great ride, and they look great.

2. The person that owned the truck before me had a front hitch, and two electrical connectors (one in front one in rear) for a WARN winch. If I wanted to buy a winch would I have to buy the entire kit, or could I just buy the winch alone; if so how much money would I save since it is already pre-wired? Also, does anyone think the winch was a portable type, since it has an electrical hookup in front and rear?

First off what gears to you have, is your truck a 1500 or 2500?

This info pertains to Ram 1500's. If you have 3.92's you should be fine, if you have 3.55's the truck may have to work a little harder to turn the larger tires. The stock 275's are approx. a 31" tire, most Rams with 275's came with 3.55 gears - unless it's an off road edition or unless the original owner ordered the 3.92's. Ram's with 20" rims came with 3.92's. The 315-70-17 is approx. a 35" tire, which I think is the largest tire you can fit w/o installing a lift. Do you notice any rubbing of the tires at full turn?

With regard to the winch questions...what do the connectors look like? Is it the positive and negative cable? Is the winch control still there? Do you still have the winch mounts?

The truck is a 1500 with 3.92s, so I guess I am good.
Also, there is no rubbing.

The Winch electrical connectors are located near the front reciever,and the rear reciever. They are red in color, approx 2"x2", and read WARN. Does this type of winch mount into the reciever. There are no winch controls.

I agree that your probably fine with the 315 and 3.92 gears. I plan to do the same one I can afford to. What are your RMP's at 70? I'm just under 2,000 RMP with the stock ~ 33's and 3.92 gears.

If you want to get a winch, I'd recommend getting just one and then get a receiver mount for it. Check out http://www.warn.com/truck/mounting-s...ti_mount.shtml - this is probably simular to what you have and what you'll need to buy. Check out this site and let me know if you have any additonal questions.

Just as a note I have a 9.5XP on my Cherokee and LOVE it. I've pulled a '86 Ram with 35's out of holes where it's barried to the bumpers and the winch doesn't even act like its working!

At 70 I'm at 2000 Rpm. From that link it looks like I have the front reciever and the Quick Connector kit.
I appreciate your help.
Thanks
