Hey Justin,
Thanks for the response. With the rep that JL has I think I'll go talk to the local dealer here and see what kind of pricing he's got and see what kind of amps he recommends to drive them.
Thanks again.
If you are gonna do it, get a small sub, like an 8". The prob is that the bigger the sub, the less room for bass. I have a 10" and the thing thumps, sometimes you get a boom, but that depends on the song. For the most part I get a thump. Then again it could be my sub. I bought the single box. My bro in law, has a f150 and he has an 8" box. Sounds much nicer and has more bass.
I like my 2 JL 10W3's. I bought a dual 10" box from ebay ($80), and also bought the 2 subs from ebay for $185/pr. I already had an amp to power them, so for a little over $300 after installation hardware, I've got a pretty good stereo. Its not nearly as good as my 2 Kicker L7 12's I had in my car, but oh well.
If you are going to do a "stealthbox", make sure to place some wood or hard surface on the top of the box to make the seats sit level.
If you look at all of these pictures, the sub is not recessed, it sits above the top of the box. The subs basically stick out of the box about 1/4". Everytime you sit down on those rear seats, you are essentially pushing all of your weight down on that sub. It's not good for your speakers or box in the long term. It's also not good for your seat, as you could ruin the leather/carpet finish and you could also at some point rip the material and expose framing which could in turn damage your sub. It's not a guarantee, but would you want to worry?
All you have to do is simply take some like 1/4" material and place it down around the top of the box to help offset the weight. Space it out and you can even paint it or carpet it if you like but painting its easier and faster. It wont look as pretty, but it will help safeguard your system. I personally had mine recessed into the box when I did mine for my Dakota. It looks better and it's better for the equipment.
Oppie311 has the right of it, go JL.....they make quality stuff and of any of the stealthboxes....their's is the best "premade" one. MTX isnt bad, but it's too "hollow" sounding in the bass department.
eltupac does have a good point however, that if you are going to go with 2 subs and you want to use that little area, 8" subs would indeed give you better sound and bass. They can use more of the airspace and arent as constrained in a box as a 10" or 12" would be.
good luck!

I made my own box for under the seat. I have two 10" infinitys. I raised the rear seat about 1" with spacers and it works really well. Im thinking about cutting the box in half and running one sub so i can get some of my underseat storage back.
DevilsReject - I can't speak for any other Quad but my 2006 rear seats do not touch anything under them. They are held up by the hing in the back of the seat. If I wanted I could remove the entire underseat area and they would still sit the same even though nothing was under them. So at least for my truck the speakers (if I installed them in mine) would not be 'sat on' by the bottom of the seat.

That storage unit under the rear seat isnt very large, and for some people, they want 12's. Some people want multiple 10's. It's all a matter of how its set up.
Also, look closely at steeringcolumn's pictures.... if you look toward the very top of the 1st picture and the top middle of the 2nd picture....you will see an outline of his box where it's been pushed into the seat. I've built this type of box before and I know that this CAN and WILL infact happen.
The premade boxes built by some companies are designed to remove the storage area below the seats and use the added space to in fact remain level with the seat. They ALSO have raised support edges to help balance the seat up. Go look at a MTX Thunderform box. Otherwise, most self-built or custom built boxes will in fact sit higher then the rear seats normally do. You can offset this by raising the brackets/hinges on the rear seats. However, you still press down on the seat when you sit in it. You will STILL push DOWN on your seat since it is not a bucket seat and is relying on support from the hinge and whats BELOW it. When you build your own box or put one in the back of your truck, then we can discuss this.
