Note that the students found that conventional camper tops
and removed tailgates hurt, but tonneaus helped about 11%.
I'm not sure that I agree totally with the above quote because when I open the tailgate on a 300 mile(one-way) trip I take quite frequently, I save full 1/4 of a tank on my 97 Ram 1500 5.9 4x4 Auto/Overdrivewith the tailgate down.

I also try to keep the RPM's to under 2000 if I can also helps quite a bit. Yes, it takes alot longer to get to cruising speed but I usually ain't in that big of a hurry.

I had a 5.2 Ram and a 5.9 Ram and both got about what I am now getting with the HEMI with 120+ more hp? I am ecstatic!
I know what owning a truck is all about and it aint, nor ever, will be mpg's.
I was at a car show a few years back with my German sportscar. A guy was checking out my Roadster and asking all the usual questions like.... How fast does it go?, How much hp, etc... He then made a statment I will never forget. He said.. "I would never own a car like this because it doesnt get good mpg!" I look at him and thought.."O.K. step away from the car, your to stupid to be this close." I really just smiled and let the comment slide.

This is a very old thread but I agree, a K&N filter will NOT give you 2-3 mpg.
