I used to have the static shock problems occasionally due to weather on a new vehicle with cloth upholstery or new carpet at home. The old fashion dragging grounding straps work. (The new Wal-Mart superstores here even have a newer chain version on their shopping carts now!) I have used the anti-static aerosol sprays on the upholstery in the past with extreme cases. It worked.

We started using fabric sheets in our clothes drier at home many years ago and the problem went away and has never come back!! All of my Dodge trucks that I own now have cloth upholstery and I haven’t been “bit” yet.

It is due to the electrons you pick up in the air as you drive down the road. Then you ground the vehicle and ZAP, you get a nice shock. It is perfectly normal. I'd also venture to say that is is colder and you haven't had much rain lately.
Well for me this is the first vehicle to have this problem, I get shocked as soon as I touch metal even if I havnt touched the ground yet. And it doesnt matter if its rainy or not and it happens more often when its hot out, it hasnt happened much this winter.

It is all about the cloth interior as stated. It is worse if you have short legs and drag you butt on the seat as you get out.

Hello, this is Ramilla and I have leather seats and I also get a healthy shock while exiting the Dodge, but it helps if I touch the door frame before I touch the ground.

I don't have this problem....... I love leather!! LOL. On the other hand, my neon does this REALLY BAD. Especially in the winter. It's been doing it so long that I have trained myself to just hang onto the door from the time I grap the interior latch, to the time I shut the door from the outside. My passengers are always getting zapped. It seems to be worse in the winter though, with the air being more dry. I don't really know of a cure. I guess you could try some differnt ground straps, but I'm not sure if that will help that much. On the comment about the gas stations..... I thought they busted that myth on myth busters a while back. I know the cell phone myth was busted for sure.
