Fuel Requirements for Hemi
Hey all, new to the forum.
I purchased a 2004 ram 1500 qc 4wd with a hemi, twelve thousand miles on it last week. Today, I saw on television that this engine requires premium unleaded. Is this true? I've been putting regular in so far (only once).
Also, is it too late to start using synthetic motor oil, I do a lot of highway driving.
P.s., love the truck, took my wife for a ride and she said, "it feels like I'm taking off in a airplane."
Thanks,
Tim
it is never too late or early to start useing synthetics. Ive got my yoda on a diet of AMSoil right now and it seems to like the stuff pretty well.gunna start my Ram on it soon. . .only downside is the 3 gallons of oil I have to get for it[:@]

My owners manual says it will run on 87 but recommend 89 whatever that means. Anything over 89 you are wasting your money.

yea I just read that in the manual the other day when i was looking for something, they recommend higher octane for towing or heavy loads, ive always run regular, no problems so far.

FOR BEST PERFORMANCE 89 AND ABOVE, 2 OR 3 BUCKS DIFFERENCE

Agreed. I always run 89+, Ive run 94 before and I actually got really good milage, and the truck ran incredibly smooth [not that it doesnt now]. I wouldn't run 87, for fear of developing a knock / detonating the engine, its not very common but it can happen is the engine is working hard [high rpm's]

I try to run 89 all the time, but I've used 87 and noticed no difference. I try to hit my local fuel place that has 89 for only a few cents more than 87 on Sundays.

As long as your not racing or towing, your good to use 87.
