PyRoHAvoC you are correct i have a reg. cab ram and i was wondering the same thing so today i took the cover off and it was the opening center console on mine it had four screws in the top and without the hinge in the back and the front clasp can someone tell me why dodge would use the same console and just not make it opening. [:@] how much did they they take off the price by not useing the hinge and and front clasp!

Unfortunately I do not have the center seat storage compartment in my 04 QC SLT. I thought all the SLT's had it but I don't have power seats like most SLT's so maybe that has something to do with it. I wish I had the underseat storage. Since there is no locking compartment in the truck it would be the best place to stow my CCW gun if I ever have to step into a place where it is illegal to carry. Most people don't know about that compartment and it is not very noticeable so if somebody broke into my truck they might not find it and steal one or both of my rather expensive ($1200 and $600) CCW guns. (which of course would not be covered under my car insurance policy)

Anybody know of kit that I could install to make either the center console or glove box a locking compartment that wouldn't look like a crappy two bit redneck job? I know it would probably only slow down a determined thief but it would protect me from smash and grabbers.

Yea, looks like it only came with the power seat option. I have an 03 2500 Reg Cab, w/ no power seats and I dont have the storage thing. Thatd be nice though.

AeroRam, go to consolevault.com . They market a lock box for the console area. It's a bit pricey (close to $300), but it does look neat.
The cheapest I've found it so far is about $270 from Cabelas, so I'm having a problem justifying the cost. But it does seem like a good idea for someone that has a regular need to carry a pistol, etc.

Thanks. I just went out to the truck and found the compartment. Thought I had read the manual cover to cover. Joining this forum has already paid dividends!

Every vehicle manufacture does this. They use the same console because it's cheaper than manufacturing a different one. The hinge and front latch would have cost you another $455 for the premium seat package. Why would they spend any money "throwing it in" when they can give the consumer a choice and make money on the package if people want it?
