I just turned 21,000 on mine and haven't noticed any wear like you're talking about. I'll have to check it out tomorrow

I just passed 13K (mostly city) on my 2004 and the steering wheel shows little to no wear.

i'm up to 17,000 and i have the exact same problem in the exact same place...looks very similar...my hands do sweat a lot...so maybe that's it...but that leather wrapped steering wheel cost extra $, so i will take mine to be replaced sometime before it falls apart and my warranty expires

Mine did the same thing at about 15,000 miles. As SRT10 mentioned, water or sweat can eat away at the leather.

My 01 ram did the same thing...... you should have seen it after 4 years That's why I opted away from the leather wheel in the 05

took it in today and they didnt even bother to look at it, said they get this problem far too much and ordered my new wheel, said it should be about 2 days. kinda sad that its this common of a problem and there still not doing anything about it, oh well. ill let you know how it goes when i go back to the stealership.

At least there was no hassle in getting them to order you a new one.

I have an 03 2500 QC 4x4 and my leather wrapped wheel wore out around 25k.....a buddy of mine is a steering wheel/restraint engineer at DCX. He said that they have been having many quality problems with the supplier of those wheels.....specifically the 01-05 MY. My 99 RC 318 4x4 Ram wore out some, but not nearly as much. Luckily, I was able to obtain a free wheel and within 50 minutes had it replaced with the help of a wheel puller. It was really as tough as I thought it would be.

Now mine is the exact same as that, like acid ate it.

Hopefully the warranty will cover it.
