8in Subs in Door
Hey guys,
I use my under the back seat space for storage. Its my only spot. Its not worth losing over some bigger subs. I just want to update my stock 8's in the door. Other then getter a big sub, am i going to need an amp to power them to notice a difference? Has anyone upgraded there door subs?

Why not go this route instead?
eBaY Hot Box 12" sub
It's a 10-12" sub enclosure that is designed to replace the bottom half of that center seat in the front of your truck. It keeps everything looking completely stock and it only takes about 15min to install.
It's a bit pricey, but it's worth it I think.

In the 2nd and 3rd gen trucks, you have a center seat section in between both of the front seats. There's an armrest and it can be tilted up to allow for 3 persons sitting in the front.
It's in that middle section that the 1 sub goes. Basically, he builds a box that is a direct replacement for that center seat. You get the benefit of a better sub, more bass, and you dont lose the seating. It's a good alternative to yanking the rear storage section for subs. It may not be ideal for everyone, but its a good idea....and its less involved then yanking a bunch of the stock components and dealing with all of that.
The sub is self contained and the box is designed to keep the vehicle looking completely stock from all outward appearances.

A while back I saw a truck car domain, and the owner had some 8" subs installed in the doors. The install looked very good. It also looked very time consuming, as the mounting depth of the sub looked too deep for the door panel. What this person did was use fiberglass to bring the sub closer to the interior to gain the depth he needed.
Every time I have seen larger door speakers, its been on someone's truck that has put a good amount of fabrication into it. I just don't think that aftermarket 8" subs will "bolt right in" good luck..... aren't the stock speakers 6 3/4"?

This maybe a stupid question, but do you have to run an amp to power the sub. Or would I be able to tap power from the radio?
The sub setup looks cool as heck and you loose no space. [sm=goodidea.gif]

Same place mine would go....velcro'd to the dash...
Not everyone actually has that storage unit under that middle seat. Some people do, some dont. The arm rest stays stock, but the sub goes inside the bottom half of the seat. You could always make a new arm rest with a hiding spot [8D]
