Default 20inch tires and gears

hey all,

i got a 2002 Ram 1500 QC LB 4.7 with a 3.55 rear end on the stock 17's, just bought it two weeks ago and im lookin in to gettin the 20 that came on the short beds for my long bed, if i read correctly i will still be able to hold as much in the back but not be able to tow as much (somewhere around like 1000lbs less but i dont tow so i dont care) If i get the twenties and tires should i get the 3.92 gears in the rear that the short beds with the 20's came with or just leave it alone. and anyone know where i can pick up a set without paying a dealer $2600. Thanks in advanced

I am in the same boat as you buddy. I have the same truck except the 2005. You can leave in the 3.55's but you will lose a little acceleration. If you are not a racer and just want a cool looking truck they tell me we can leave the 3.55's. I was thinking of going to the 4.10's but the entire job with gears will be close to $500 clams. I can't afford that right now just for a little better bottom end. I am no tlooking to gun it off the line. The advantage of the shorter gears like the 3.92's is the tranny will not have to work as hard.

Don't bother with 3.73's you really won't see a difference with 20" rims. Go 3.92 or higher. You won't be sorry. You may even get a bit more MPG with a shorter gear from all the research I have done, except if you drive over 80mph consitently on the highway.

Go right to the 4.56's and you will NOT regret it one bit. You will get KILLER off the line performance and great fuel economey ao boot. The 4.56's are a WIN WIN mod.. there is NO negative side effect what so ever. If you have any questions just do a search ... the ONLY people who say the 4.56's are too much gear are the ones who have NOT done the mod. You will be hard pressed to find ANY 3rd Gen Ram owner who does NOT love his 4.56's!

yup...like Nick says...don't fear the gear...go straight to 4.56's...with 20's it's a perfect match...
