Default Axle Ratio

Hey guys,

Well I just got a nice big horn edition 1500 4x2 quad cab.. When I look at my window sticker it starts out saying that I have a 3.92 axle ratio under the big horn options, then under the 5-speed auto transmission option it has a 3.55 axle ratio (which is listed after the big horn options).

So which ratio do I have? This all started with an idea that I could just throw another differential gear in to get better gas mileage...

True or false? Opions??

--current mpg with 760 miles on the green engine is 15.5 avg

Thanks!

3.55 standard, 3.92 option, so if you have 3.92 listed in the options that is what you have.

Honestly NEITHER of them.... Due to the extream overdrive ratios of our transmission combined with the 30"+ tall tires, then factor in that our trucks weigh upwards to 6,000lbs... 3.55's are going to DRINK more gas than a truck equipped with the 3.92's....

Now with that said, most anyone who has done gear swaps in the third Gen Ram and they will ALL tell you that by going up to a 4.10 and even 4.56 gear they have noticed INCREASED feul economey. Again, tall tires, .75/.67 overdrive tame the taller gears... and the taller gears get your heavy ARS rolling with less effort... once your in Overdrive your trnasmisison tames them and turns the 4.56's into the equivlent of a 3.05 gear.

SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM

Hmmm... So basically leave her alone...? Just remove the pulley driven fan, get her an electric fan, pulley kit, and a flowmaster and Ill be fine..?

She's a quad cab 4x2.
