growling noise on hard acceleration?
Hello. I am hoping someone can help diagnosis this problem I am having with my 04 QC hemi. I am having a low toned growling noise on hard accelerations. The noise only happens on full throttle acceleration and it happens around 3500-4000 RPMS in 2nd gear. I can feel it through the chassis of the truck. Any clue what this might be?
I have no idea what it is but I have the same noise on my 04 1500 QC HEMI 4x4. I have noticed that the noise only occurs when accelerating hard in a straight line. If I turn the wheel to either side and accelerate aggressively I hear no noise. Also, I have yet to hear the noise while going in reverse, only when going forward. I have heard the noise in 2 wheel drive and in 4 wheel drive. However, the noise is a hit and miss thing. It only occurs after I come to a complete stop, accelerate hard (not spinning tires) and then only till I hit about 30 mph. No noise is heard at highway speeds and it is very difficult to troubleshoot as I can not isolate if it is from the front or the rear. I can definitely "FEEL" the vibration when driving, whatever it is it can't be good.
I had a bad vibration on my 06 RamSport 2500 HEMI QC 4x4 when I would accelerate and hit 1200 RPM. The vibration lasted about 1-2 seconds. I then noticed when my truck was idling, the exhaust was the cause of the vibration (exhaust would make a vibration noise while idling). I had a Gibson Swept Side exhaust installed and the vibration stopped. Love the new exhaust, no more embarassing vibration from my new truck. Dealer also told me that he has had many trucks go in for the same vibration and they added a new clamp to stop it.
Just got mine back from the dealer (i have the stock exhaust) and was told that it is a common noise made by the exhuast and was called an "exhuast drone" by the service department. I plan on checking it out tomarrow and see if I can pinpoint any vibration of the exhuast at idle. Best of Luck to everyone with this problem.
